NHS-Funded COVID Tests at Ascent Pharmacy
Introduction
Ascent Pharmacy now offers NHS-funded COVID-19 tests specifically for patients identified as among the most vulnerable. These home testing kits are familiar from their use in the NHS Test and Trace system and aim to provide swift and reliable access to COVID testing for those at highest risk of infection.
Eligibility and Service Details
Not everyone meets the eligibility criteria for this NHS service, which requires proof of eligibility. If you do not qualify, rest assured that Ascent Pharmacy continues to offer COVID-19 Lateral Flow Tests (LFTs) for purchase in nearly all our pharmacies.
Who Is Eligible?
The NHS lateral flow device service is available to individuals aged 12 and over who fall into the potentially eligible groups for COVID treatment. These groups include:
- Those with Down's syndrome or other genetic disorders affecting immune competence.
- Individuals with solid cancers, haematological diseases, renal disease, liver diseases, solid organ transplant recipients, immune-mediated inflammatory disorders, respiratory conditions, immune deficiencies, HIV/AIDS, neurological disorders, and various other conditions.

Testing Instructions and Kit Contents
Each COVID test kit provided under this service includes 5 lateral flow devices, 5 swabs, and necessary buffer solutions. Instructions for use are included in the kit.
When to Test
Tests should be used if symptomatic for COVID-19, even if symptoms are mild. Individuals living in the same household are encouraged to purchase their own tests as they are not covered by this NHS-funded service.
Purpose of Testing
A positive test result within eligible groups informs clinical assessments by NHS 111, GPs, or hospital specialists. This can lead to the prescription of NICE-approved COVID treatments for active infections.
