Community Pharmacist Consultation Service (CPCS) at Ascent Pharmacy

For minor ailments like coughs, colds, or sore throats, you might not feel sick enough to visit a doctor but still need advice and over-the-counter medication. The NHS-funded Community Pharmacist Consultation Service (CPCS) offers a convenient solution.

What is the CPCS?

The CPCS is a free service that allows you to consult with a pharmacist about your minor illness. Our trained pharmacists can assess your symptoms, provide advice, and recommend appropriate over-the-counter medications. Additionally, they can supply urgent medication if you've run out of your regular prescription.

Benefits of the CPCS:

  • Same-Day Appointments: No need to wait days or weeks for a doctor's appointment.
  • Expert Advice: Pharmacists are medication experts who can provide tailored advice on over-the-counter options.
  • Convenient Locations: Ascent Pharmacy has over 50 branches across England, all offering the CPCS.
  • Free of Charge: The service is completely free.

Who Can Use the CPCS?

The CPCS is available to anyone registered with a GP in England. Patients can be referred by GPs, NHS 111, and urgent care centres, or they can self-refer via NHS 111 for minor illnesses or urgent medication supplies.

How to Use the CPCS:

  1. Referral: Ask your GP, NHS 111, or another healthcare professional to refer you to the service. You can also self-refer via NHS 111 for urgent medication.
  2. Choose a Pharmacy: Select your preferred Ascent Pharmacy location. The pharmacy will be securely notified about your condition, and they may call you to save you a trip.
  3. Visit the Pharmacy: Inform them you've been referred to the CPCS so they can locate your referral.
  4. Consultation: The pharmacist will assess your symptoms and provide advice. If you need medication, they will recommend an appropriate over-the-counter product.
  5. Emergency Supplies: If referred for an emergency supply, the pharmacist will provide the necessary medication and handle any NHS payments if applicable.

Accessing the CPCS:

The CPCS is an excellent way to quickly and easily access care for minor illnesses. If you're feeling under the weather but not sick enough to see a doctor, don't hesitate to ask about the CPCS at Ascent Pharmacy.
